Can I install Openserver 5.0.4 5.0.5 or 5.0.6 on a Pentium 4 based machine?
Openserver 5.0.4 and 5.0.5 will not work with a Pentium 4 based system. To use a Pentium 4 processor you will need to upgrade to Openserver 5.0.6. You will also need to apply rs506a and oss648a as these supplements provide the thermal throttle code which is essential to avoid permanent damage to the Pentium 4 processor. With the introduction of the Pentium 4 processor thermal throttling was moved from a CPU function to a function of the operating system. Installing on an operating system less than described above could lead to permanent damage of the CPU or a highly unreliable machine. The supplements including installation instructions are available from: ftp://ftp.sco.com/pub/openserver5/rs506a ftp://ftp.sco.com/pub/openserver5/oss648a ftp://ftp.sco.com/pub/openserver5/oss648a.ltr This information also applies to the Intel Xeon processors using the same NetBurst microarchitecture as the standard Pentium 4.
